Week 1 Recap :)
What an amazing first week!
This first week was one of the smoothest yet, thanks to our amazing swimmers who braved the cold waters! 6+unders rocked the swim test! For any 6+unders that missed the swim test there will be an opportunity this Monday to complete the swim test. We also had a blast at our team meeting and free swim yesterday, thank you for all that joined in! For those that missed it the Hammond family aka the swim coaches answered some frequently asked questions in the form of a family feud game, here is what answered:
1. What is game day? The morning after a meet where instead of practice we play games, get donuts and learn who the swimmer of the meet's are.
2. Where do we go after the meets to eat?
We plan to eat after the meets at Rreal tacos and this is a fun opportunity to hang out and celebrate the meet as well as refuel. For groups that finish earlier like 6+unders we encourage you all to go as a group!
3. What’s the end of the year party?
The end of the year party is a celebration of all we have accomplished as a team for the season! Us coaches make heartfelt paper plate awards to recognize each swimmer. We also have special awards like MVP, Most Improved, Spirit of the Hammerhead, Swimmer of the Season, Coaches Award, Bullpen Parent of the Year and Mrs. & Mrs. Hammond Hills. So you WON’T want to miss this night!
4. What’s the swim-a-thon?
The Swim-a-thon is our biggest annual fundraiser of the season! This will be our 3rd year doing it and in the past two years we raised money for the new blocks that you see at the end of the pool as well as our lane ropes and Hammerhead score board. At this event we have a silent auction as well as a swim-a-thon similar to the boosterthon. Not only is this a fundraiser, but this is also a day where swimmers have the chance to push their limits and surprise themself with how much they can swim! The top boy and girl fundraisers get to go to Lake Lanier with the coaches! We also have prizes for those that raise $500 and $100 so stay tuned.
5. When is picture day?
Picture day is next Thursday 5/15! Report time is 5pm and we need everyone there! Caitlin Lawrence will be selling snow cones after as we will not have practice.
6. What are time trials?
Time trials are every wednesday evening starting May 21st and with each age group we run through all the events and time our Hammerheads to see what events fit best for the upcoming meet. So it is very important that you come to time trials and if you are not able to let a coach know so we can time you before that wednesday. Darden's delights will be selling pies at every time trial this season, so get a savory or desert pie after you swim!
7. How do we let the coaches know we are missing a meet?
You fill out the google form for that specific meet, each meet will have a separate google form emailed out the week before. We will likely forget if you tell us at practice!
8. What kind of gear do we have?
We have hats, sweatshirts, t-shirts, jawstring gear bags, and monogrammed towels. Don’t forget to check out the team merch to look cool!
9. Do I need to wear a cap and goggles at a meet?
Yes you must! If you want to go fast, having goggles and caps is the way to go, they make you aerodynamic. We are selling team caps at the first time trials.
10. What are the Thursday clinics for?
Thursday clinics are an opportunity to work on technique and get more individualized feedback, this is also a great opportunity for anyone that is not able to come to many practices, it’s for ages 7+ and will be every Thursday evening once school is out from 6-6:45 for ages 7 and up
11. What’s bring- a friend to practice day?
This is an opportunity to invite that friend that you would love to bring into the Hammerhead family, they can come and try it out and see if they like it! For every swimmer that brings a friend you get entered in a raffle to win some swim merch! So however many friends you bring is how many times your name will be entered. It’s this upcoming Tuesday so make sure to ask them soon!
12. How do I get on the record board?
You swim a time faster than the time on the record board for your age group and make history!
13. When does the Coaches Relay take place?
For most meets it will take place at the end of the meet so we encourage everyone to stay until the end. These coaches' relays can get quite silly. Last year we had a teen beach movie where the bikers and surfers battled it out!
Looking forward to week 2, Go Hammerheads!!!
