Swim Meets 101
Week before swim meet
- If your swimmer will not be in attendance you MUST fill out the google form the week prior to the meet (you do not need to fill this out if your swimmer will be in attendance)
Swimmer check in
- Please have your swimmer arrive at 4pm for home meets and 4:30 for away meets
- Swimmers are required to check in with a coach who will be located near the entrance, then head to the Bull Pen
- At the Bull Pen, they will be 'marked up' (ie have the information of their events, heats and lanes written on their arms in sharpie)
What to Bring
- Swimmers should wear their Hammerhead team suit, or any swimsuit that is suitable for competing (we advise one piece suits, and remember that board shorts and swim shirts add drag and slow your swimmer down)
- Bring 2 towels, goggles, swim cap, water, and less heavy snacks (fruit, bars, jerky, apple sauce, berries, crackers). Optional: games for the bull pen
Bull Pen
- Swimmers are grouped by age they compete for
- Swimmers are expected to stay in the bull pen when not swimming so they can be taken by coaches/ bull pen parents to their events
Timeline
- Meets will start at 5.30pm.
- The backstroke events mark the half time point, so this is when volunteers who are switching halfway through the meet will switch
- 6 and under events are done after the backstroke, and you are welcome to either stay and watch the older kids swim, or take your own kids home.
- Swimmers are expected to stay until they finish their last event
- If your child needs to leave unexpectedly(sickness or emergency) during a meet, PLEASE tell Coach Nina before you go. She will need to fill the event spot and move around swimmers to do this. If your child is scheduled for a relay and leaves, 3 other swimmers will not have a complete team.
Spectators
- Spectators can cheer at the end of the pool or along the edge of the pool, you may bring camping chairs, but do not set them up in the middle of the walkway (this is usually marked in chalk)
- ONLY swimmers, coaches and volunteers are allowed behind the blocks.
Bad Weather During a Meet
- We can swim and compete in rain. We cannot swim in thunder.
- In the event of thunder please listen carefully to instructions from the Coach, Lifeguards and/or Officials. Their priority is your safety and the safety of your child.
- If we are placed on a 30 minute thunder delay, please do not go home unless Coach Nina tells you the meet is cancelled. If we are instructed to take shelter in cars (our clubhouse is not suitable for the full capacity of people at a swim meet) do not leave unless you receive a swimtopia alert or facebook alert from Coach Nina announcing the meet is canceled.
- We are usually able to continue after a short delay and we need your swimmer to be there!
